The Central College men’s soccer team closed out regular season play on Saturday with an evenly-matched contest with Dubuque; but fell to the Spartans 1-0. The winning goal came in the 66th minute in a scramble around the box, and Dubuque was able to hold on from there.

The loss dropped the Dutch to 12-4 overall and 5-3 in the Iowa Conference. The Central men will be the No. 4 seed in the Iowa Conference tournament, as the Dutch will face fifth-seeded Luther in the first round of the league tourney, which will be held in Pella tomorrow or Wednesday.

The Central College women’s soccer team also finished the season against Dubuque on Saturday, falling 6-0 to the Spartans to close out the year with a record of 2-13-1, and 2-5-1 in the Iowa Conference. Their seventh-place finish in the conference standings marked an improvement from ninth place last year, and the Dutch are expected to return ten starters next season.

Brianne Knutson – the team’s lone senior – finishes her career having been a starter in 70 of the 71 games she played in, putting her second in that category in the school’s all-time leader board.
