Area residents are reminded to set their clocks back before going to sleep tonight and check their smoke detectors. The first Sunday of November each year, clocks are set back one hour to end Daylight Saving Time. At 2:00am tomorrow clocks will “fall back” to standard time after “springing ahead” an hour the second Sunday of March to begin Daylight Saving Time. The purpose of Daylight Saving Time was to save energy for war production during World War I by taking advantage of the later hours of daylight in April through October. In addition, residents are encouraged to change the batteries in their smoke detectors and test them to make sure they are in working order.
