A European company is wanting to build a plant in Pella, which would create over thirty jobs for area residents, eighteen of which are supported by state incentives. Lely USA, a subsidiary of Lely Industries based out of the Netherlands is a world leader in robotic milking systems. Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini says that Lely is wanting to expand their presence in North America and construct a 25,000 square foot facility in Pella. Last week, the city approved a letter of intent saying that they are ready for Lely to come to Pella if they meet certain criteria. On Thursday, the Iowa Economic Development Board awarded $670,000 in direct financial assistance to Lely USA. The board also approved tax incentives through the High Quality Jobs Program.
