A new piece of hardware now belongs to the Knoxville School District. As previously reported by KNIA/KRLS news, Knoxville’s West Elementary has been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Principal John Keitges and 5th grade teacher Tony Roozeboom received the award in Washington D.C. last week. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says though it took a while to receive the award it was worth it and is a great honor or the district. The school board, administration and several teachers from West Elementary celebrated the honor at Monday night’s meeting which came with a plaque and banner.

The award was due to outstanding standardized test achievement by 5th graders in the spring of 2009 followed by excellent performance in 2010.
