When a new coach comes on board, there is always a time of adjustment for the coach and especially the players. Melcher-Dallas girl’s basketball is under the direction of first year coach John Sunkten. Sunkten is not new to Melcher-Dallas, as he has been at the school for nearly 20 years serving as a girls coach during the six-player era and the past five seasons as the varsity boys assistant. While winning is important to Sunkten and the team, playing with maximum effort is more important. Suntken says conversely you can also lose a game but if the effort is there still fell like you have won in other area. The Saints are one-and-one on the season with a season-opening loss to I-35 and a victory over Wayne on Tuesday. Melcher-Dallas plays again on Tuesday against Bluegrass Conference team Moravia.
