While Twin Cedars is trying to fill the shoes of one outstanding player, the Sabers’ main rival Melcher-Dallas on the southwestern side of Marion County is trying to figure out how to replace its top four scorers from last season. New coach John Suntken says the team will be young with only two seniors in Haylie Branson and Mallie Wells. He says several of the sophomores and juniors will have to step into new roles this season. Branson returns as the leading scorer at just 5.2 points per game, she was the second leading rebounder last season with 142 boards. Suntken is not new to Melcher-Dallas as he has been the assistant boys coach for the last five seasons, and coached girls basketball during the six-player era.
