[simage=3416,200,y,left] Sheriff Ron Goemaat tells KNIA KRLS News that a number of phone and mail scams directed at the elderly have been attempted in recent days. Scams included a caller posing as a grandson asking for money, a person posing as an investigator of a bank asking for personal information, someone asking for a fake insurance check to be cashed for them, and a person saying that the elderly person had won a prize but that a deposit had to be mailed to receive the prize, among others.

Sheriff Goemaat urges all residents of Marion County to never give personal information such as drivers license numbers, social security numbers or any other personal information out over the phone. If you feel that you have received such illegal solicitations, contact your bank and local law enforcement.
