Even with a big contest with Wartburg looming next weekend, the Central College football team made sure to not look past Buena Vista, as the Dutch handed the Beavers a sound 35-7 defeat. Three scoring connections between quarterback Nate Snead and his older brother, Jeremy, got the Dutch out to a strong start on offense; while the Central defense swarmed Buena Vista, forcing two first half interceptions – one of which snuffed out the Beavers best chance at a score in the first half.

Central continued to control the game on the defensive side of the ball in the second half, preserving the 21-0 halftime lead all the way through the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Central defensive lineman Jason Krall returned an interception 21-yards to extend the lead to 28-0. Central’s last score came on a 7-yard pass from Zach Bandow to Michael O’Rourke, while Buena Vista avoided the shutout on an 8-yard touchdown pass with just over a minute left to play.

The Dutch out-gained the Beavers 413 to 243 on offense, highlighted by Jeremy Snead’s 110 yards receiving on 7 catches – including scores of 6, 36 and 30 yards. Central’s defense tallied a season-best four interceptions, and defensive end Shane Wong led the Dutch with 10 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss.

Central now carries a 6-1 conference into a huge match-up with undefeated Wartburg for a shot at a share of the Iowa Conference title. That game will kick off at 1:00 p.m. this coming Saturday in Pella.
