The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday morning.  At the meeting, four public hearings were held to discuss various zoning issues.  The supervisors approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the Marion County subdivision regulations. Some of the changes to the ordinance include making Zoning Administrator Melissa Poffenbarger the point source for all land divisions, a new code that clarifies that all parcels should be considered as “ag use only” unless specifically designated as “buildable” and all new streets within subdivisions shall be considered private, unless the street is accpeted by the Board of Supervisors upon recommendation from the County Engineer. The board also approved the rezoning of property located at 1805 130th Place from Agricultural land to Commercial 2 as Peoria Trailer Sales plans to use the property for their business.

In addition the board also received and filed the county bridge inspection and rating report. This process is done twice a year and the info gathered is used to build the five year plan. Engineer Roger Schletzbaum says in the past 10 years, 45 bridges that had load limits have been repaired and those projects will likely be less frequent in the next 3 years due to lack of funds. The inspection and rating report was completed by Calhoun and Burns and Associates who Schletzbaum says does a great job and provides the county with a lot of helpful information for a reasonable price. For that reason, the supervisors approved an agreement with the company for these services for 2011 and 2012.

The board also approved a resolution establishing load limits on 5 county bridges ranging from three to 23 tons and approved a 30 ton limit on Elk Horn Drive from Highway 163 to Park Ridge Road where an overlay was recently completed. In addition, the board also approved 5 change orders for the North Annex remodel project which resulted in an increase of $5,100 for the contract with Jensen Builders LTD, due in large part to the necessary sheeting for the west wall of the building.
