Knoxville’s Jamie VanderVeer and Timothy Shepherd proved Saturday they could run with just about anyone in the state as both finished the top 20 of the Iowa Track Coaches Association All-Star Cross Country Race held in Des Moines. VanderVeer who a week before earned all-state honors at the class three-A state meet finished sixth and Shepherd came home in 16th place. As a team the Southeast Boys Squad finished fourth out of four teams. Shepherd says he never would have dreamed of being the runner he is now without the help of his coach. Both Shepherd and VanderVeer’s Coach was a familiar face to Knoxville fans, as former girls cross country coach and current Athletic Director Randy Wilson was the Southeast Team’s honorary coach.
