Area boy and girl scouts, veterans, American Legion, VFW and community members will gather at the Graceland Cemetery this morning morning to put together the Avenue of Flags. Hundreds of flags will be displayed throughout the cemetery in honor of Veterans Day and those who would like to help set them up should meet at the cemetery at 8am. The set up is expected to last approximately 45 minutes and there will be a breakfast served afterward at the VFW.

In addition, the Knoxville Senior Center will host their 8th annual Veterans Day program later this week. This year’s theme is Celebrate Freedom and the program will begin at 10:30am Thursday at the senior center. The hour long event will include a presentation of the flags, the pledge of allegiance, a tribute to Mick Meyers, a musical presentation by the Knoxville Chamber Choir, a moment of silence and Taps will be performed by the American Legion and VFW. A light lunch will be provided and the public is welcome to attend and pay tribute to our local veterans.
