Though the blizzard that hit Marion County is now over the cold weather continues. Over the weekend we officially received five and a half inches of snow with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. Cold temperatures remain in the immediate forecast and there is a wind chill advisory in effect until 9:00 this morning.
According to the National Weather Service this means very cold air and wind will combine to generate low wind chills which could result in frost bite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must travel outdoors it is recommended that you cover exposed skin and make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that all roadways in the area are partially covered, and that normal winter driving conditions exist.
The Marion County Engineers office reports that county paved roads were largely cleared of large drifts yesterday, but icy conditions may exist. Many county gravel roads were also bladed yesterday, and county maintainers have been out since 4AM clearing additional gravel roads. Snowplows will be out on paved roads in the county beginning at 7AM.
The Knoxville Snow Ordinance is in effect, the Pella and Pleasantville Snow Ordinances are not in effect.
