A former Knoxville resident has teamed up with five other vocal musicians to compete in a national television singing competition. Jon McLemore, former pastor at the Church of Christ and part of the Knoxville Noon Kiwanis club is now a member of “Street Corner Symphony” an a cappella group based out of Nashville, Tennessee currently competing to win season two of “The Sing Off”. Street Corner Symphony is one of five remaining groups in the competition which started with ten ensembles on December 6th.
KNIA/KRLS news was able to speak briefly with McLemore between rehearsals for the show this week and he says the experience has been amazing thus far. He tells us the group was put together specifically for the “Sing Off” audition. McLemore says “we thought it would be a fun weekend but that we wouldn’t make it on the show. When we made it on the show, we couldn’t believe it. Then we thought, we probably won’t make it through the first round because when we heard the other groups we were a little intimidated, they are all so good! But here we are, actually contending, and gaining momentum!”
McLemore also says though he no longer lives in Marion County he definitely hasn’t forget the area or the people here. “I miss Knoxville so much, I really wish I could have been there and had a viewing party at Peace Tree Brewing Company, it would have been perfect! Thank you to all my friends in Knoxville, IA for watching us on the show and for your support!!”
“The Sing Off” airs Monday and Wednesday nights at 7pm on NBC. KNIA/KRLS news plans to keep in touch with McLemore as the journey continues and will bring you updates as the show unfolds.
