Last week Senator Chuck Grassley nominated many outstanding young Iowans to serve in the United States service academies. Of the students selected was North Mahaska High School student Jesse Phillips. Principal Douglas Ray tells KNIA/KRLS News that Jesse is a great kid who likes to go above and beyond. He says that North Mahaska recently took 48 care packages to soldiers oversees, and Jesse played a key role in making sure the packages were delivered. Jesse is involved in jazz band, concert band, National Honor Society and is Vice President of the Student Council. He plans on attending the U.S. Air force Academy and majoring in electrical engineering.
