After an initial policy and planning meeting that took place on Tuesday to discuss the local option sales tax, the Pella City Council will meet in special session on Monday night to decide whether or not to allow the public to vote on extending the tax beyond December of 2011. Pella City Administrator Mike Nardni tells KNIA/KRLS News that if council does choose to allow the public to vote on the local option sales tax, the election would take place in March, May or August. Nardini adds that with the amount of time and work that is involved in an election, the council needs to decide on whether or not to bring the local option sales tax to a vote by mid-December. The city plans to use the money in a variety of ways such as improving Caldwell Park, repairing the HVAC systems at the the indoor pool and repairing roads in the city.
