When finalizing plans for the upcoming New Year’s holiday area residents are encouraged to try something new. Jim Christianson, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor at Capstone Behavioral Healthcare says alcohol has become such an acceptable part of our culture over the years and the upcoming weekend is one of those times where drinking increases significantly. He says why not try something new such as going out to dinner or going dancing or having a nice night in minus the alcohol, you may find that you enjoy yourself more than you thought you would and it will make for a more enjoyable New Year’s Day.

Christianson says if that doesn’t appeal to you; make sure someone sober will be behind the wheel.

Christianson recommends that men stop drinking after four drinks in a day and women stop after two. He says there are many consequences associated with decisions made while drinking and asks people to think twice when celebrating this weekend and all year round.
