New Year’s Eve is a time when many celebrations involve drinking alcohol and Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat reminds residents to make good decisions. Goemaat says it is important for those who are consuming alcohol to make sure they stay at their location overnight or have a safe and sober way home. He says area law enforcement agencies will be out and about enforcing the 0.08 blood alcohol limit laws and the costs of an operating while intoxicated arrest are very costly.

In addition, Goemaat recommends all motorists to drive defensively because you never know if the drivers of other vehicles on the road are under the influence and it’s important to remain alert.
He says luckily OWI arrests have not been a large issue in the county during the New Year’s holiday but everyone is just encouraged to use good judgment.
