As previously reported by KNIA/KRLS news the Marion County Historical Society hosted their annual Festival of Trees November 20th and 21st and recently made a donation to the Red Rock Area Community Action Program. The bulk of the money raised for that donation came from a favorite tree contest where visitors were able to vote for the best decorated Christmas tree by putting money in the cans beside them. The Knoxville Lions Club and Girl Scouts tree received first place this year followed by the Knoxville Federated Garden Club in second place and the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics Lab in third.

A total of $450 was raised at the event. Historical Society President Janet Ritchie says it’s really touching to be able to brighten up the holidays for others who are less fortunate such as the elderly residents who will receive Christmas baskets full of food thanks to this fundraiser.

The winners of the favorite tree contest received cash prizes of $25, $15 and $10 respectively which Brooks says was returned back to the Historical Society to be added to the donation total.
