Things continue to get busier each year for the Knoxville Fire and Rescue Department as they set yet another record in 2010. According to Fire Chief Mike Roberts there was a record setting 1,286 calls in 2008, things slowed down a bit to 1,190 in 2009 and in 2010 they set another record with 1,315 EMS calls. Roberts says he is amazed by these totals and when he joined the department 15 years ago he never would have thought they would be doing numbers like this.

Roberts says while the EMS calls increased yet again, the number of structural fires was down considerably in 2010 with only a total of three.   He says the 1st and 2nd fires occurred 8 months apart and the 2nd and 2rd fires occurred in the same house in Roche Street.

The Knoxville Fire and Rescue Department now has three full time EMTs on staff along with several paid part timers as well.  Roberts says the addition of the new staff has made their call volume much more manageable.
