A victory over Cornell College Saturday gave the Central College women’s basketball team reason for optimism but the Dutch weren’t able to accelerate their momentum Monday night, as they faltered at the University of Dubuque, 78-57.  Central held an early lead, which the Spartans overtook and never relinquished, as the Dutch trailed 39-24 at halftime and did not come closer than nine points the rest of the way.

A bright spot for Central was the continued improved play of Nicole Strasko, who led the Dutch with 17 points and 7 rebounds.  The Central women are now 4-12 overall and 1-6 in the Iowa Conference with only one day off again before facing Buena Vista University at home tomorrow evening.  The Beavers are 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the Iowa Conference.
