With snowy conditions predicted through Tuesday afternoon, Pella Public Works is already at work keeping the city up and running. Public Works Director Denny Buyert says that the work begins when the city announces a snow ordinance to be in effect. He says the first step is to salt and sand intersections throughout the city and after that there are two goals. The first is to keep roads into and out of Pella open, the second is to clear the business district so that emergency response vehicles can safely get out. Buyert says depending on traffic and wind conditions, the city is typically cleared within eight hours of the first snow fall.
