A Knoxville man is now $10,000 richer after purchasing a winning lottery ticket. Mike Spolar bought the winning $10 “Merry Money” instant-scratch game at the Knoxville 66 this holiday season. According to the Iowa Lottery the odds of winning a $10,000 “Merry Money” prize is one in 30,000. In addition to the standard cash prizes available in the scratch game, this year the Iowa Lottery also started a holiday promotion where non-winning tickets are also eligible for electronics and cash prizes. The promotion runs through January 18th.

The Iowa Lottery began in 1985 and since its start $1.2 billion dollars has been raised to help provide support for veterans, help a variety of significant projects through the state’s General Fund and backing of the Vision Iowa program which was established to create tourism destinations and community attractions and build and repair schools.
