Officials at Pella Christian Grade School are conducting a feasability study for a spanish immersion program. If adopted, next year elementary students at Pella Christian will have the opportunity to learn a new language and learn about a new culture. Jodi Pierce, librarian and Pella Christian Grade School says elementary students will spend time in a Spanish Immersion program, designed to give the students a better understanding of another culture and make them more competitive in a shrinking global job market. She says only pre-school, kindergarten and first grade students will participate in the program to start, but that depending on interest and success of the program, they plan to continue it through the 5th grade. She says that if successful, 5th grade students who were enrolled in the program will have a spanish language fluency level equal to that of a 5th grade student whose native language is Spanish.
