The Pella Reads organization kicked off on Wednesday with public readings and discussions of the book Three Cups of Tea. Treva Reimer, a volunteer with Pella Reads and Director of Cultural Affairs at Central College says there are two goals with this project, one is to bring the community together in a like-minded way and the other is to promote the Pennies For Peace initiative. Reimer says the goal for Pennies For Peace is to raise $12,000, which will fund two schools and two teachers for one year in Afghanistan. Reimer adds that the amount set as the goal equates to about one dollar for every person in the greater Pella area.
