A steady number of Marion County residents are taking advantage of Iowa’s new gun laws. Monday was the first day Iowans could apply for the new gun permits that are now good for five years. Sheriff Ron Goemaat says there has been a steady stream of applicants so far this week and they’ve been able to keep up without an issue. He says due to the large amount of publicity about the new laws they have seen many new people apply for their first ever gun permit. Goemaat says he expects the initial spark of interest to slow down in the next few weeks.

As always, guns are not permitted in the Marion County Courthouse and “No Gun” signs have started to pop up at businesses in the county as well.
