A winter storm has arrived in Marion County. The National Weather Service estimates that we will receive between 5-8 inches of snow by noon Tuesday.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that all area roadways are snow covered and may be slick.

City officials tell KNIA KRLS News that the Knoxville Snow Ordinance is in effect as of 7PM; the Pella Snow Ordinance goes into effect at midnight. No parking is allowed on city streets in either community after the snow ordinance goes into effect. Pella snowplows are plowing city streets as needed, Knoxville plows will begin work at 4AM in the morning, unless needed earlier.

The Marion County Engineers Office reports that trucks will continue to plow and treat county highways tonight until approximately 6:30 p.m. They will start again at 4:00 AM and stay as long as needed. Motor graders will begin tomorrow at 10:00 AM and continue on into the evening hours until needed. The roads will be re-assessed tomorrow afternoon to re-evaluate what will be needed for Wednesday.

Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat states that area roadways are slick and potentially hazardous. He urges caution during travel this afternoon, overnight and into the morning. Please slow down, take time to get to your destination, and give our first responders and road crews plenty of room to work.
