The 2011 State Wrestling Meet begins this afternoon in Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. While Knoxville’s Jay Fresh and Skyler Spaur are not scheduled to compete until Thursday morning, however Coach Eric Whitcome is encouraging fans to get to Wells Fargo Arena Friday. He is encouraging fans to sit sin sections 117 or 118 for the best viewing of both matches. Fresh will wrestle at around nine Thursday morning and Spaur should wrestle his match at around ten. Class 1A and 2A will begin competition starting at one this afternoon with 1A. Four wrestlers from P-C-M will be in action today including 37-and-one Junior Dalton Kingery at 119 pounds who will match up with 42-7 sophomore Chase Goodman from South Central Calhoun. Junior Bryce Wignall is at 130 pounds for the Mustangs with a record of 34-11, he will face off with J.C. Vercande, a 45-4 junior from Williamsburg. At 160 pounds P-C-M sends 32-8 senior Trent Little to face Derek Stork a 39-6 junior from Atlantic. The fourth Mustang to qualify for state was senior Dustin Moore at 215 pounds with a 20-1 record. Moore will see Terron Geerdes a 30-8 junior from Central-Lyon/George Little Rock in the first round. Pleasantville has three grapplers in action today including senior Wes Prill at 140 pounds who stands at 30-7 on the season. Prill will see Teddie Harvey a 39-6 sophomore from Ft. Dodge St. Edmond. 34-4 senior Tasker Phillips of Pleasantville will match up with 45-6 senior Max Cherry of East Buchanon Winthrop. Senior Phil Lumley at 215, the third Trojan to qualify, with a record of 28-2 will see Preston Russell a 31-6 Junior from Lisbon in the opening round.
