After a relatively subdued opening quarter of play, the Pella High girls basketball team exploded with large point outputs in the second and third quarters, as they put a way a very talented Grinnell squad 60-47 Friday night in Pella.

In a game that was streamed live on kniakrls.com, the Lady Dutch capitalized on a high-pressure defense and deadly shooting from the floor, on their way to chalking up 20 points in each of the second and third quarters.  After that, Pella continued to shoot well from the free throw line as well to preserve the 13-point win.

Offensively, Lindsay Bentzinger led the way for the Lady Dutch, putting up a game-high 18 points.  Mackenzie Anthony and Katie Sunderman also hit double figure outputs with 11 points apiece.

A resilient Grinnell squad had three players account for all but five of the team’s points, as the Tigers shot 53 percent from the floor.

Pella one-upped that, hitting 55 percent of their shots and went 10-of-11 at the free throw line.

The win improves the Lady Dutch to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference, entering today’s non-conference match-up with ADM.
