This week the Iowa Senate passed a bill for 2% allowable growths for schools for the upcoming fiscal year, while the House has passed 0%. Senate Minority Leader Paul McKinley of Chariton says while the majority in the Senate approved this increase they spoke about spending more to pay higher salaries and fund a bunch of activities rather than mention anything about the children in the state and the fact that Iowa is one of the 10 worst states in the nation for educational attainment. McKinley says while 0% allowable growth may sound like no funding, it actually accounts for $286 million new dollars put into K-12 education.
