The Knoxville City Council set a public hearing date at their meeting this week to discuss the 2011-2012 City budget. City Manager Dick Schrad says this year’s budget work sessions have continued without much controversy. He says each department submitted a budget requests that were within reason and there were not a lot of expensive increases in any one department. Schrad says the City is counting on the renewal of the Local Option Sales and Services Tax to help fund any substantial future improvements.

Knoxville has been able to hold its own and replenish its cash reserve and general fund over the last year according to Schrad. He says they’re looking to keep those at a sustainable level as the City’s bond rating depends on it.

The public hearing will take place during the next City Council meeting on March 7th at 6:15pm.
