Area Little Leaguers have some important new safety guidelines in place for this season. Little League International has determined some composite bats are not safe for use in Little League games. Travis Thompson with the Pella Little League says that as bats get broken in, they can have more flex which means the baseball has more velocity coming off the bat. He says in some cases, the youngsters simply don’t have enough time to react. Thompson says he doesn’t recall there being a big issue with composite bats locally, but thinks its important that equipment be as safe as possible. Here’s a list of Little League International approved composite bats [1].
