Members of President Obama’s economic team were in Pella Thursday. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sanchez and Import Export Bank Chairman Fred Hochman attended a meeting at the Vermeer Corporation to learn more about the needs of local businesses as they work to increase exports. Sanchez says an advantage of US companies is innovation. He highighted mining equipment manufactured by Vermeer than simply can’t be bought anywhere else. Hochman says that when businesses like Vermeer are exporting, they’re indirectly creating other jobs for their vendors. Vermeer CEO Mary Andringa says that company’s export volume has grown enough in the last decade to create more than 500 new jobs.
