The PCM boys have joined Pella Christian in the Class 2A State Tournament with a grinding 33-31 win over West Marshall. Neither offense got into much of an offensive rhythm, as both teams played lock-down defense from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

PCM appeared to be gaining control just before halftime when Josh Fosenburg nailed a three as time expired in the second quarter to give his squad its biggest lead at 20-13; but the Mustangs would be held to just three third quarter points and led by only two entering the fourth quarter.

PCM’s leaders would come up big in the fourth quarter, though, as Scott Bruxvoort scored 4 of his game high 14 points in the final period, and Fosenburg made two crucial free throws in the game’s final seconds. A desperation half court heave at the buzzer by West Marshall fell short, preserving the win for PCM.

With the victory, the Mustangs make their first state tournament appearance since winning it all back in 2004 and will play nearby rival Pella Christian in the opening round. PCM drew the tournament’s number one seed, while Pella Christian is the eighth seed.
