The Pella Christian girls basketball team continued its strong start to postseason play with an 82-49 dismantling of Highland in last night’s second round of the Class 2-A Region 6 tournament. After feeling out the Huskies in the first quarter, the Lady Eagles exploded in the second period for 28 points on their way to a 41-25 halftime lead.

With control of the game in hand, Pella Christian continued to pressure Highland into turnover after turnover; while knocking down a barrage of outside shots to continue and build on their lead. In all, the Huskies would give the ball back to the Lady Eagles a staggering 37 times.

Paige Engbers came off the bench to lead Pella Christian in scoring with 12 points, while Shelby Weaver also hit double figures with 11 points. A total of 13 players recorded points for the Lady Eagles, including 6 players with 5 points or more. Renae De Bruin led Pella Christian in rebounds with 5.

The Lady Eagles are now 18-4 overall entering a big match-up Friday with No. 7 Bondurant-Farrar; who defeated PCM 45-26 Tuesday night. The third round contest will be held at Knoxville High School and will be broadcast live on 92.1 fm KRLS.
