A renewal of the Local Option Sales and Services Tax will come before voters next month and each area of the county has determined what they will use the funds for if it is renewed. In the unincorporated areas of Marion County their renewal would be imposed on January 1, 2014 with a sunset date of December 31, 2023. Half of the revenues from the local option tax would go to property tax relief while the remainder would be spent on community betterment projects such as historic preservation of the courthouse, capital equipment, improvement projects, construction and Marion County Secondary Road projects. The renewal election will take place on March 1st and all residents are encouraged to go to the polls and have their voices heard.
