Every winter our school bus drivers drive tens of thousands of miles through difficult driving conditions including snow, ice, and occasional blizzard conditions without incident. One Pella Community School District bus driver needed a bit of extra help this morning on a hill on Keokuk near T17 south of Pella. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports that while the bus was trying to climb a steep hill on a snow and ice packed gravel road, the rear end started sliding towards a ditch. Rather than risk going into the ditch, the driver stopped and requested help. Another school bus arrived, and students were transferred to the other bus without incident. The Marion County Secondary Roads department responded with a load of gravel, and with the assistance of Pella School District Personnel, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the bus was able to make its way back down the hill safely.
