As previously reported on KNIA/KRLS, Iowa Workforce Development offices will be consolidated from 55 field offices to 16 regional office which will reportedly put the workload onto ISU Extension offices and local libraries. Knoxville City Manager Dick Schrad says he finds this ironic as it is an unfunded mandate that the state appears to be moving toward, though a bill in the legislature that deals with property tax reform states libraries are non-essential municipal services.

Schrad says he doesn’t understand how the state can determine libraries are non-essential while they choose push additional services on to the local level.
