Temperatures continue to climb, local students are on spring break, and lots of area outdoor enthusiasts are readying their tackle boxes for another season of fishing around Marion County. County Naturalist Marla Mertz says an effort is currently underway bring awareness to the dangers of lead in the environment. This includes the traditional lead sinkers used by many fishermen. She says phasing out the use of lead products and replacing them with non-toxic metals like steel or bismuth would have a great positive impact on the evironment, without taking away from those recreation activities.
