While her season did not go exactly as planned, Knoxville Senior Katie Ayers made her mark on the girls basketball squad. Ayers averaged 6.6 points per game and led the team with 144 rebounds this season, she also lead the team with 32 blocked shots. However Coach Jim Utiermarkt says what made Ayers a special player is her leadership with the team. He says not only in basketball but she also is known as a leader in her other activities as well. Utiermarkt said Ayers was one of the best leaders he has ever coached. He says she had to play a different way this season playing a true post as opposed the previous two season where she was able to venture outside and play more of a wing position.
