Central College junior Ethan Miller has received the league’s athlete of the week honor for the third time this season.
Teammates Kurtis Brondyke and Jill Ziskovsky picked up men’s and women’s special mention track and field athlete of the week honors.
The three athletes swept the men’s and women’s pentathlon titles at the conference indoor track and field championships at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse Friday and Saturday. Miller and Brondyke shared the men’s title, posting 3,475 points while Ziskovsky set a new meet record on the women’s side with 3,354 points.
It’s the fifth time Miller has earned league honors. He was noted Feb. 7 and 14 after being recognized twice last year. He is a two-year all-American and was named the league’s indoor MVP last year and was co-MVP with Brondyke in the 2010 outdoor season.
Brondyke is a three-year all-American. It’s the eighth time he has been cited as the league’s track and field performer of the week, but the first time he’s been recognized this season.
A two-year all-American, this is the third time Ziskovsky has been recognized as the league’s field athlete of the week. She was selected Feb. 14 and noted last year on Feb. 13.
The men’s squad brought home its second straight conference title, scoring 212.16 points, almost 30 points ahead of runner-up Wartburg (183). The women’s squad recorded its best indoor finish in school history, taking second with 118.5 points behind team champion Wartburg (251).
Central will take a limited squad to the Iowa State Last Chance Open Saturday in Ames before competing at the NCAA Division III Championships March 11-12 at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
