With cold spring temperatures limiting the number of good hits, the Central College baseball team relied on steady pitching on solid fielding to sweep three games with Loras College this past weekend.

On Saturday, ace Joel Pulliam pitched a complete-game shut-out as the Dutch held on for a 2-0 win; then carried that momentum into an 8-5 victory in the nightcap.  Central then wrapped up the sweep of Loras yesterday with a 4-3 win in nine innings.  Three times the Dutch were able to get themselves out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam against the Duhawks, while scoring runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Pitcher Ryan Goetzinger ended two of the scoring threats for Loras with strikeouts on his way to a career-best 10 K’s in just over five innings of work to improve his record to 3-0 this season.  Michael Jontz came in for three innings to earn the save.

The sweep of Loras improves Central’s record to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the Iowa Conference.  The Dutch are off this week before traveling to Waverly on Friday and Saturday for a three-game series with Wartburg College.
