A brief warm up at the end of last month should help prevent any significant flooding in the area this spring. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says the Des Moines River does stand some chance of flooding, as there is still a heavy snow pack at the headwaters of that river. He says south central Iowa has benefited from a steady melt of the winter’s snow, and though he expects the spring to be slightly more wet than usual, doesn’t anticipate any heavy flooding around Marion County.
