It was another day of tight matches against top-level competition as Howard Payne Univ. swept the Central College tennis teams Tuesday. The men fell 6-3 and the women were topped 5-4.

Sophomore Bryn Boswell racked up two wins, taking the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-4, after winning No. 2 doubles, 8-4, with partner Jacob Dreyer. Dreyer snagged a No. 5 singles victory, 7-6, 6-0.

Both Sara Dale and Emily Swartz had two wins on the women’s side, claiming No. 1 (6-0, 6-2) and No. 2 (6-2, 6-0) singles, respectively, before pairing up for a victory at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Chelsea Johnson picked up the fourth win for the Dutch at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

The men (3-11 overall, 2-9 spring) and women (0-2 spring) will play Tyler Community College in an exhibition match Wednesday. Tyler CC is both the men’s and women’s defending champion of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

The men return to league play Sat., March 26, hosting Wartburg College at 1 p.m.
