The Knoxville School District has been selected to receive a federal grant to remedy fire safety defects. Senator Tom Harkin announced this week that more than $7 million in federal funds will be distributed to 91 school districts in Iowa for this year’s 13th annual Harkin Grants program. Knoxville is the only district in Marion County who requested the funds and will receive $15,000 for fire safety projects with no local match required. Harkin says all kids deserve safe, modern schools and well-equipped classrooms in which to learn and these grants are a great investment in Iowa communities and Iowa children.
