A Pella woman was transported to the Monroe County Hospital Saturday following a one-vehicle accident. Kayla Van Zante, age 18 was a passenger in a car driven by Clayton Griffith, 25 of Lovilia. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Griffith and Van Zante were traveling north on Highway 5 just after midnight Saturday morning. Griffith ran off the right side of the road and struck a telephone pole. He and Van Zante were transported from the scene by the Monroe County Ambulance. Griffith was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, operating while intoxicated, second offense, failure to maintain control and driving while suspended. Both driver and passenger were wearing safety belts.
