Two Rivers Officials In Tracy Present Information on New Facility

Two Rivers Cooperative officials held information sessions regarding the new facility in Tracy they plan to break ground on as soon as spring weather arrives. Plans are for three primary bins, with the possibility for expansion. The facility will serve those in the immediate Tracy area, with the likelihood of farmers up to ten miles away also taking advantage of its location.
General Manager Tracy Gathman says that the storage soon to be available in Tracy will also alleviate storage problems at Two Rivers facilities in Pella, Monroe and Otley. Concerns voiced by those in attendance included the potential for dust problems, heavy truck traffic, damage to local roads, and the safety of children in the community given the lack of sidewalks. Another concern shared was that while the asphalt roads leading into the facility are in Marion County, the actual facility is in Mahaska County, and revenues generated would not be available to Marion County.
Gathman says that truck traffic is an estimated 1,000 trucks a year, averaging approximately five a week, with more during harvest season. He stresses that Two Rivers already contributes significantly to the tax base of Marion County through its operations in Pella and Otley, and that they will do their best to work with community members to address other concerns.
