Marion County residents will have their first opportunity of 2011 to properly dispose of household chemicals in Pella on April 2nd. The collection is free to all county residents, and is intended for household hazardous wastes. South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency Director Sara Bixby says anything brought to the pick-up site should be in a leak proof container, and chemicals should not be mixed. The effort is intended, in part, to help keep things like batteries, flourescent lightbulbs, paint and other problem materials out of the landfill. The collection point will be at the Pella Public Works Complex, 100 Truman Road Saturday, April 2nd from 9 am to noon.
