Traditional cold and flu season may be over, but some people could still be susceptible to a similar virus, called respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. Norb Greiner, Respiratory Therapist at Pella Regional Health Center says there has been an uptick in the number of cases lately.

He says the virus causes symptoms very similar to the common cold, and RSV can be transmitted and prevented just as easily. Greiner says RSV is most likely to affect infants and those with weak immune systems.

He stresses keeping anyone with symptoms of the cold or a possible case of RSV well hydrated and in children to keep airways open and clean and to always make sure to wash your hands and take other sensible steps to prevent spreading germs.
