The Pella Christian boys claimed first place in seven events, but it was not enough to overcome the consistent scoring of A-D-M and Eddyville-Blakesburg; as the Eagles finished third in a field that included teams from four area schools at Tuesday’s PC Boys Invitational.
A-D-M narrowly took first place in the team standings with 121 points, followed by 119 from the Rockets, with Pella Christian tallying 102.  PCM came in fourth with 86 points and Pleasantville took fifth with 48.  Pella High’s JV squad took 8th place with 21 points.
Pella Christian made a good showing in the field events; as Derek Van Kooten won the long jump and Justin Pastoor took the shot put.  The Eagles also got individual victories from Chase Carlson in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and Skyler Giddings in the 800 meters.  Carlson added two more golds as the anchor leg of the winning 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams.
PCM’s Jordan Van Roekel was automatic in anything totaling 400 meters, as he claimed the 400 meter dash, 400 meter hurdles, and led off the winning 4×400 meter relay team en route to being named the meet’s outstanding male athlete.  The Mustangs also got a first place finish out of Jake Potter in the 1600 meter run.
Pleasantville’s lone gold medal came from Hunter Van Haalen in the high jump, while Pella High’s Michael Schemm took second in the 3200 meter run as the top finisher for the Dutch JV squad.
