After opening the league schedule with a sweep of Loras last weekend, the Central College baseball team was dealt its first Iowa Conference loss of the season as the Dutch suffered a 5-2 defeat to Wartburg College last night in Waverly.
The Knights earned all five of their runs by the fourth inning, while Central was limited to only five hits in the game and did not cross the plate until the sixth inning when Mike Furlong and Anthony Miller where batted in by Caleb Rangel and Josh Stanton, respectively.
Wartburg, meanwhile, racked up 11 hits and and gave Central pitcher Joel Pulliam his first loss of the season, despite seven strikeouts and no walks in seven innings of work.
The Dutch are now 12-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play, but can take the series this afternoon with a pair of seven-inning games against the Knights, starting at 1:00 p.m.
